Learn to Skate

The Learn to Skate program is designed for both beginning skaters and those with some previous skating experience. Skaters will be divided into 2 groups based on their skating abilities.

Level 1- Ideal for skaters with no or limited skating experience. Skaters in this group will be taught the ABC's of Skating (Agility, Balance, and Coordination)  As the Skaters improve and become more comfortable on the ice they will graduate to Level 2.

Level 2-  For skaters who have been through Level 1 or are more experienced.  Level 2 will begin to introduce the fundamentals of hockey, while continuing to master the ABC's of Skating. This is accomplished by small group station based training and small area games.  

Ages

Ages for 2024 - 2025 Season: Birth dates of 2012 - 2020

When

(Most Saturdays 10:20 AM and Sundays 12:50 PM)   Sessions begin in early October and conclude early March. (There will be no sessions on Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday weekends.)

Practices

The skills sessions follow the USA Hockey ADM model with station based drills. There is also a designated area for kids who aren't able to keep up with the larger groups will break off into smaller groups at one end of the ice and work on the basics until they are able to keep up with the pace of the class.

Games

Depending on the level of the players as the season continues, we will have 4 vs 4 cross ice scrimmages on one of the days as part of the program.

Jerseys and Equipment

 Full hockey equipment is required.  This includes a certified hockey helmet with cage, hockey gloves, shin pads, elbow pads, shoulder pads, neck guard, and skates. Hockey pants are not required but are strongly recommended. 

We provide Learn to Skate Jerseys as well to start the season.

2024-25 LEARN TO SKATE

The Learn-to-Skate / Learn-to-Play Hockey Program is our entry program into hockey. It is ideally suited for boys and girls ages 4 to 12 is a great entry point for kids to begin and develop skating skills and have fun out on the ice.

All skill levels are welcome. Kids who aren't able to keep up with the larger groups will break off into smaller groups at one end of the ice and work on the basics until they are able to keep up with the pace of the class.

The program focuses on the fundamental skating and stick-handling skills used in games in addition to improving each player’s balance, agility and control. Practices will include stations that teach a variety of skills including: stopping, turning and skating backwards, as well as, stick handling, passing and shooting.

A fun and encouraging environment will be maintained with an emphasis on teaching through drills and small area games. Hockey jerseys will be provided for all players.
