Indian Mite Classic Tournament

The Billerica Hockey Association’s Indian Mite Classic Tournament is held at the end of the Mite season in March. This tournament is a ½-ice mite tournament and brings together teams of all abilities to compete. Games are played at the Hallenborg Ice Rink.

2020 Dates:     Wednesday March 18, 2020 through Sunday March 22, 2020 (Weekdays are evening games)

Entry Fee:       $800 per team (Make checks Payable to Billerica Hockey Association)

Additional Details Planned for 2020 Tournament:   

  • 18 teams in 3 divisions
  • Half-ice tournament (USA Hockey ADM and host rules govern tournament)
  • Multiple divisions (host will divide teams into divisions)
  • Teams will play a minimum of 4 games (2 - 24 minute halves per game)
  • Trophies provided to winning teams and finalists
  • Medals provided for everyone
  • Sunday-only development jamboree for registered Mite house teams

2020 Tournament Rules and Guidelines:   

  • 2 minute shift changes at each buzzer
  • 2 - 24 minute halves per game
  • Each shift will begin with a faceoff
  • Blue pucks will be used
  • No slap shots
  • After a goal there will be a faceoff at center ice
  • After a save resulting in a frozen puck, there will be a faceoff in he defending zone
  • Penalties will be called (e.g.. high sticks to the head, two handed slashes, trip on a breakaway), but the penalty will only last the duration of the shift. The penalized player will leave the ice for that shift and the team will play shorthanded for the duration of that shift. At the discretion of the tournament administrator, players can be ejected for acts determined to be willfully dangerous.
  • Parents, players and coaches are prohibited from arguing with the officials. As necessary and appropriate, the tournament administrator will eject those in violation of this rule.
  • Tie breaker rule: If teams remain tied after calculating total points, then head-to-head , then the team with the least goals allowed (GA), and then the team with the most goals scored (GF) gets the top seed. If all categories are still tied, there will be a coin flip between the head coaches.
